Stars post 88-65 romp over St. Gregory's

OCU gets most lopsided win in SAC play this season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled to an 88-65 men's basketball victory over St. Gregory's on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Terry Johnson, a junior from Chicago, posted 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals to spark the Stars. OCU improved to 13-9, 6-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars picked up their largest win this season in conference play. OCU had edged St. Gregory's 67-66 on Jan. 24 in Shawnee, Okla.
OCU's Shawn Grant, a senior from San Jose, Calif., notched 15 points, while Charlton Jones, a senior from Katy, Texas, produced 15 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals in 24 minutes. Grant went 5-for-7 from the field and nailed four 3-pointers.
Troynell Adams, a senior from Chicago, supplied the Stars with 11 points, and Elhadji Wade, a senior from Dhakar, Senegal, scored 10 points off the bench.
Grant's layup put OCU ahead 21-7 with 9:40 showing in the first period. The Stars sank 9 of their first 16 shots from the field. During that time, St. Gregory's shot 3-for-8 from the floor and committed 10 turnovers.
OCU sank 58.6 percent from the floor in the first half. Jones sank a trey off Wade's feed with four seconds left for a 46-23 Stars halftime advantage. Fayzon Richey, St. Gregory's all-time leading scorer, had two points at that point. Richey finished with 23 points.
The Stars' lead grew to 83-51 after Kaleb Smith dropped in a pair of free throws with 4:11 left in the game.
OCU takes on 10th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist at 8 p.m. Thursday in Shawnee, Okla.
