Stars drop duals to Ouachita Baptist, Colorado State-Pueblo

OCU fell 24-18 to 20th-ranked Ouachita Baptist, 19-18 to CSU-Pueblo

Josh Stewart notched a fall against Ouachita Baptist.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University fell 24-18 to Ouachita Baptist and 19-18 to Colorado State-Pueblo Friday at Abe Lemons Area.
OCU got two victories each from freshman Zach Skates and sophomore Michael Brown but couldn't pull out the victories. The losses drop the Stars, ranked No. 9 in NAIA wrestling, to 6-9 in duals.
After losses at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, the Stars got a key victory from Josh Stewart at 149. The senior from Muskogee, Okla., pinned Sterling Hawkins in 3 minutes and 43 seconds to make the score 12-6 in favor of Ouachita Baptist, ranked 20th in NCAA Division II.
Skates picked up the Stars' second win of dual at 165. The freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla., notched a 17-2 technical fall over Dexter Carter to cut the Tigers' lead to 16-11.
Two weight classes later, Brown posted a 7-2 decision over Seth Calvert at 197. The sophomore from Noble, Okla., posted takedowns in all three periods to make the score 24-14 in favor of Ouachita Baptist.
Stanley Lattimore ended the dual with a win at 285 for OCU. The senior from Athens, Ga., scored a 9-1 major decision over O'Dell Lee, but Ouachita Baptist took the dual by a score of 24-18.
After a forfeit at 125, Tyler Espitia, a sophomore from Sun City, Ariz., picked up a 3-1 decision at 133 over Jacob Haney to give the Stars a 9-0 lead over CSU-Pueblo.
Mark Meyer, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., notched a 7-2 decision at 157 and Skates followed with a 5-4 decision at 165 to stretch the OCU lead to 15-7.
CSU-Pueblo picked a 4-3 decision at 174 and a pin at 184 to take a 16-15 lead with two matches to go.
Brown, picked up his second win of the night with a 4-2 decision over Adam Carey at 197 to give the Stars an 18-16 advantage.
At 285, Niko Bogojevic topped Lattimore 4-2 in overtime to give CSU-Pueblo to 19-18 victory.
OCU will return to action on Feb. 6 against Newman (Kan.) at 6 p.m. and Nebraska-Kearney at 8 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
