Central Oklahoma tops Stars 93-78

Johnson spearheads OCU with 20 points

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma prevailed over Oklahoma City University 93-78 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Terry Johnson, a senior from Chicago, posted 20 points, five rebounds and three assists for OCU. The Stars suffered their first loss in men's basketball, moving to 2-1 on the season.
Terrence Walker, a senior from Jonesboro, Ark., contributed 12 points and five rebounds, while Jamaal Crayton, a senior from Augusta, Ga., added 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists for OCU.
Oklahoma City cut its deficit to a point twice early in the second half. Jacob Richardson's layup put Central Oklahoma ahead 51-39 with 2:18 left in the first period.
The Stars responded with a 16-5 run. OCU scored 10 unanswered points as Terence Bonhomme dropped in a transition bucket to cut Central Oklahoma's edge to 51-45 at 20 seconds before halftime. Johnson's lay-in sliced OCU's deficit to 51-49 with 19:32 to go in the game.
Jamil Donovan scored on a layup off the drive to knock Central Oklahoma's lead down to 54-53 at the 16:26 mark. Walker had a putback to cap OCU's run and make its hole 56-55 with 15:39 left.
Seth Heckart answered with a trey, while Jarrod McDaniel added a tip-in and a layup as Central reeled off a 9-0 surge.
Johnson's long jumper cut Central Oklahoma's lead to 78-70 with 5:07 remaining. Philip Brown's bucket stretched Central's advantage back into double digits as the Bronchos built their largest lead of 18 with 18 seconds left.
Oklahoma City travels to Midwestern State (Texas) for a 7 p.m. contest Nov. 25 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
