OCU notches win over John Brown

Macy records eighth double-double of year, Thomas with season-high 21 digs

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University turned back John Brown (Ark.) 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 25-14 on Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., produced 16 kills and 17 digs for the Stars. OCU moved to 17-12, 8-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Meghan Irwin, a junior from Arlington, Texas, posted 12 kills and four blocks, and Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, rang up 39 assists, 13 digs, four blocks, three aces and three kills for OCU.
The Stars' Tori Thomas, a redshirt freshman from Norman, Okla., picked up 21 digs, while Hannah Mitcham, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, scooped 13 digs. Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, had nine kills and seven digs for OCU.
"I could not be more proud with our team and the fight they showed," OCU coach Nikki Dieball said. "Both our outside hitters played great. It's hard to pick out one person who stood out. Our bench was phenomenal tonight encouraging. Every single one of us had an impact on the game."
OCU increased a 7-5 first-set lead with four points in a row. Gabel and Macy smacked kills in that run.
In the third set, the Stars pulled away from a 15-15 tie with three consecutive points. Gabel hammered a kill, and Maggie Vickers had an ace for OCU.
OCU built a fourth-set 19-9 advantage by reeling off a 7-2 run. Irwin contributed three kills, and Macy had two kills in that span.
The Stars' home finale and senior night will be 7 p.m. Tuesday against Mid-America Christian at Abe Lemons Arena.
