OCU tramples Mid-America Christian

Stars rack up third conference win in a row

Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University posted its third consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball victory 25-16, 25-11, 25-17 over Mid-America Christian at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., topped OCU with 13 kills. The Stars upped their record to 12-7, 5-2 in league play.
Tori Leisure, a sophomore from Haslet, Texas, added 11 kills and two blocks, and Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, pitched in 10 kills and four digs for OCU. Heather Watson, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., accumulated 19 assists, four digs and two aces, while Hannah Mitcham, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, rang up 15 assists and two digs for the Stars.
OCU's Torrie Flynn, a senior from Edmond, Okla., hammered six kills, while Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, contributed 12 digs and two aces.
"Tonight was a really fun match for us," OCU coach Nikki Dieball said. "Every single person was able to get in and contribute on the floor. We were able to work on some things offensively that helped us prepare for this weekend.
"We always thank God for giving us the abilities and opportunities to play the game we love so much, and tonight was another one of those blessings."
The Stars amassed 10 consecutive points en route to taking the first set. Leisure nailed three kills, and Gabel added two more as OCU turned an 8-7 edge into an 18-7 advantage. The Stars tallied the set's final four points as Leisure and Macy pounded kills. Robison's ace produced set point at 24-16.
OCU generated a 9-0 run to go up 22-6. Macy socked three kills, and Leisure picked up two kills and teamed with Flynn on a block. Robison had an ace to cap the Stars' surge.
In the third set, Flynn and Messenger had kills as the Stars erased a 13-11 deficit. Chazmin Franklin nailed back-to-back kills to spark a 5-0 match-ending OCU run.
