Southwestern Assemblies of God turns back Stars

OCU falls to 16-12, 7-6 in league play

Torrie Flynn recorded eight kills, four blocks and an ace Tuesday.
Box Score WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University dropped a 25-21, 25-22, 26-24 decision to Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Tuesday at the Sheaffer Center.
Meghan Irwin, a junior from Arlington, Texas, notched eight kills and eight blocks for OCU. The Stars went to 16-12, 7-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Torrie Flynn, a senior from Edmond, Okla., chipped in eight kills and four blocks, and Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, accumulated 18 assists and nine digs for the Stars. Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, supplied OCU with seven kills, 12 digs and three blocks, while Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., posted six kills, 14 digs and three blocks.
Hannah Mitcham had 10 assists, four digs and two blocks, and Tori Thomas contributed 13 digs.
In the first set, Flynn nailed a kill that tied the set 21-21. Southwestern Assemblies tallied the final four points of the frame.
Flynn had another kill that knotted the second set at 21 each. Southwestern Assemblies of God had set point, but Gabel extended the set with a kill.
In the third set, Flynn pounded a kill that kept OCU going despite facing match point. The Stars cut their deficit to 24-23. Thomas added a kill that tied the set 24-24. Southwestern Assemblies answered with J.J. Abbott's kill to clinch the match.
The Stars meet John Brown (Ark.) at 4 p.m. Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
