OCU drops non-league match to Arkansas Tech

Gabel supplies Stars with 19 kills, 11 digs

OKLAHOMA CITY – Arkansas Tech knocked off Oklahoma City University 25-20, 25-19, 31-29 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, posted her sixth double-double of the year with 19 kills and 11 digs for OCU. The Stars (16-10) drew the largest crowd to see an OCU volleyball match at 1,000.
Heather Watson, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., racked up 24 assists and three digs, and Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, amassed 20 digs and five assists for OCU.
The Stars' Meghan Irwin picked up eight kills and two blocks, while Tori Leisure and Kristen Macy both had six kills. Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., added six digs and a solo block.
Tori Thomas served up three aces to stake OCU to a 5-0 advantage to open the match. Gabel had a kill to help the Stars hold an 11-7 lead.
Arkansas Tech took eight tries to close out the match in the third set. Tech had three service errors attempting to finish the contest. OCU pounded four kills that extended the match – Gabel nailed two, while Irwin and Macy had one each.
The Stars resume Sooner Athletic Conference play against Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
