OCU stomps St. Gregory's

Stars pick up seventh league victory of season

Meghan Irwin recorded a season-high .579 hitting percentage Tuesday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dispatched St. Gregory's 25-13, 25-10, 25-20 on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Meghan Irwin, a junior from Arlington, Texas, topped the Stars with 13 kills. OCU moved to 16-9, 7-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., posted 12 kills, 13 digs and two aces, and Tori Thomas, a redshirt freshman from Norman, Okla., piled up 14 digs and two aces for the Stars.
OCU's Heather Watson, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., dished out 20 assists, and Hannah Mitcham, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, accumulated 15 assists, six digs and three kills.
Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, added six kills and 12 digs, while Torrie Flynn, a senior from Edmond, Okla., notched three blocks for the Stars.
OCU wiped out a 13-4 deficit to take the third set and clinch victory. The Stars reeled off an 8-1 run as Macy hammered three kills. Irwin's back-to-back kills tied the set 18-18, then Irwin pounded another kill to give OCU a 20-19 edge. Watson chipped in an ace to put the Stars ahead 21-19.
The Stars had the match's final four points. OCU nailed kills to score each point. Gabel, Irwin and Macy smacked kills to give OCU match point, then Delainey Messenger supplied the final kill.
OCU steps out of conference to face Arkansas Tech at 7 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
