Stars drop 81-71 overtime decision to Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Christian rallied past Oklahoma City University 81-71 in overtime Thursday at the Rip Griffin Center.
Charlton Jones, a senior from Katy, Texas, topped the Stars with 25 points, five assists and three steals. OCU, ranked 22nd in NAIA Division I men's basketball, went to 8-3, 1-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Terry Johnson, a junior from Chicago, picked up 20 points to be the only other Star in double figures scoring. Troynell Adams, a senior from Chicago, added nine points, four rebounds and two steals for OCU.
Elhadji Wade's jumper provided the Stars a 38-28 advantage for their largest lead of the contest. Lubbock Christian chipped away at that margin with an 8-0 run. Jason Vierra's free throw completed Lubbock Christian's surge. Lubbock Christian led 43-42 on Eli Baker's jumper with 12:15 left in regulation.
The teams forged five ties in the last 7:18 of regulation. Shawn Grant's putback forced overtime, beating the buzzer and tying the game 67-67.
Jones buried a jumper with 2:59 showing on the overtime clock for a 71-68 OCU lead. A.J. Luckey responded with a 3-pointer for Lubbock Christian. Lubbock Christian seized the lead with a 13-0 run capped by Jamaal Crayton's free throws with 15 seconds left.
OCU faces Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
