OCU drops contest to Southwestern

Irwin tops Stars with nine kills

Torrie Flynn recorded eight kills and two blocks Wednesday.

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Oklahoma City University fell to Southwestern Oklahoma State 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 on Wednesday at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
Meghan Irwin led the Stars with nine kills. OCU dropped to 3-7.
Irwin provided OCU a 9-6 first-set advantage. Southwestern answered with seven points in a row as Adriana Rodriguez had three kills during that span.
In the third set, Rachel Gabel hammered down a kill to cut OCU's deficit to 13-12. Southwestern stayed in front as Alison Cole nailed a kill to put her team up 15-12.
Torrie Flynn posted eight kills and two blocks while hitting .467 for OCU. Rachel Gabel chipped in seven kills and eight digs for the Stars.
Hannah Mitcham produced 22 assists and five digs, while Danielle Robison picked up 14 digs for OCU.
The Stars meet Sioux Falls (S.D.) at 11 a.m., then Haskell (Kan.) at 5 p.m. Friday in the Avila Classic at Kansas City, Mo.
