OCU edges Benedictine

Stars post first win in five-set match this season

OLATHE, Kan. – Oklahoma City University gutted out a 28-26, 23-25, 13-25, 28-26, 15-9 victory over Benedictine (Kan.) on Saturday at Bell Family Arena in the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational.
The Stars (9-13) notched their first win in a five-set match this year. OCU had fallen 25-18, 25-11, 25-16 to Baker (Kan.) earlier Saturday.
Against Benedictine, Hannah Mitcham spearheaded the Stars with 31 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills. Meghan Irwin posted 10 kills and three blocks for OCU.
Torrie Flynn recorded 10 kills, four digs and two blocks, while Tori Leisure chipped in nine kills and three digs for the Stars. Rachel Gabel accumulated seven kills and 21 digs, and Maggie Vickers picked up 17 digs. Danielle Robison scooped 16 digs.
Against Baker, Irwin produced 10 kills and two digs. Mitcham amassed 16 assists and 15 digs, while Robison led the Stars with 16 digs. Vickers contributed 10 digs.  
OCU resumes Sooner Athletic Conference play against Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 7 p.m. Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
