Oklahoma Baptist nips OCU 90-85 in OT

Jackman posts 17 points, while Rogers scores 12 in their Stars finale

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist edged Oklahoma City University 90-85 in overtime Thursday at Bill George Arena in the Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament quarterfinals.
Oklahoma Baptist, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division I, improved to 27-3 and moved into an 8 p.m. semifinal Friday. The Stars finished their season 12-15.
Charlton Jones, a junior from Katy, Texas, produced season highs in scoring (31 points), field goals (10) and made free throws (10) to go along with six rebounds and five assists to fuel OCU's upset bid.
Orlan Jackman, a senior from London, added 17 points and two blocked shots, while Shane Rogers, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, provided OCU 12 points and three rebounds.
Oklahoma Baptist's DeAngelo McIntosh countered with 30 points and 11 rebounds.
Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the field. OCU sank 28 of 50 shots for 56 percent, while OBU hit 31 of its 56 attempts for 55.4 percent. OBU drained 12 out of 22 from 3-point range.
“They gave us everything we wanted,” OBU coach Doug Tolin said. “Down at the end, we made plays. They're a good team. Every game will be a battle.”
McIntosh scored the first points of overtime, then Emmanuel Wilson added free throws for Oklahoma Baptist. Kaleb Smith went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line for OCU, but Heath McKay put Oklahoma Baptist up 85-79 with a trey at 1:11 remaining in the game.
Jackman dropped in free throws to cut OCU's deficit to 85-81 with 35 seconds left. Oklahoma Baptist shot 5-for-6 on free throws to put away the win.
The Stars led 78-73 with 1:03 to go in regulation after Jackman registered a 3-point play.
McKay responded with a 3-pointer with 48 seconds showing, then Jacobi Isham tied the game with free throws at 15 seconds left.
Jones tied the game 70-70 with free throws at 4:29 left, then nailed his first 3-pointer of the game to provide OCU a 73-70 edge with 2:21 to go. McIntosh answered with a 3-point play. Jones scored with 1:34 left to put the Stars in front 75-73.
Rogers' baseline jumper gave OCU a 60-58 lead with 12:03 left.
OCU bid farewell to its two seniors, Jackman and Rogers.
Jackman has posted 539 points, 299 rebounds, 50 assists and 47 steals in his two-year OCU career. His highlights include a 29-point night at Rogers State on Jan. 5, two 15-rebound performances and a team-high nine double-doubles this season.
Rogers finished his two-year OCU career with 458 points, 212 rebounds, 149 assists and 62 steals. His career highs include a 17-point night at Oklahoma Baptist on Feb. 2, nine rebounds at Northwestern on Jan. 28, seven assists against St. Gregory's last season and five steals vs. Dallas Baptist on Oct. 29.
