OCU zaps Wayland Baptist 74-51

Adams drops season-high 20 points to lead Stars to victory

Orlan Jackman posted his seventh double-double against Wayland Baptist Thursday.
PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University bounced Wayland Baptist (Texas) 74-51 Thursday at the Hutcherson Center.
Junior Troynell Adams posted a game-high 20 points and senior Orlan Jackman followed closely with 17 to move the Stars to 11-10 overall and 8-9 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU trailed by four points at the 14:44 mark of the first half, but embarked on a quick 10-0 run to take a 16-10 lead with 11 minutes left to play in the half. Jackman fueled the run with six points.
Shane Rogers scored in the paint at the 6:29 mark to spark another OCU run. The Stars outscored Wayland Baptist 13-3 in the final six minute of the first half to take a 34-20 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Stars shot 42 percent from the floor and from behind the 3-point line while holding the Pioneers to 30 percent shooting from the field in the first half. Jackman paced OCU with 13 points.
The Stars began the second half on a 14-6 run to extend their lead to 22 points. Adams scored five points during the run to help OCU take a 48-26 lead with 15 minutes left in the game.
T.J. Jacobs hit a 3-poiter at the 8:20 mark to cut the OCU lead to 13. The Stars answered with an 11-1 run, capped by a Rogers' 3-point bucket to make the score 67-44 with 3:31 left to play.
OCU finished the half on an 18-8 run and cruised to the 74-51 victory.
The Stars' defense held Wayland Baptist to 37 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent from beyond the 3-point line and scored 18 points off turnovers.
OCU outrebounded the Pioneers 39-28 and shot 45 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point land.
Adams posted a season-high 20 points and shot 7-for-12 from the field. Jackman and Morton each notched a double-double on the night. Jackman had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Morton had 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Stars will remain in Texas to take on Lubbock Christian at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.
