OCU falls 77-61 to St. Gregory's

Stars move to 12-13 overall, 9-12 in conference play

Charlton Jones tallied 15 points and five assists agaisnt St. Gregory's Wednesday.
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 77-61 setback against St. Gregory's Wednesday at W.P. Wood Field House.
The loss drops the Stars to 12-13 on the season and 9-12 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Troynell Adams converted on one of two free-throw attempts to give OCU a 7-4 lead at the 14:02 mark of the first half.  Adams scored five of the Stars first seven points in the ball game.
St. Gregory's answered with a 10-0 run to take a 14-7 lead with 10:51 left to play in the half.
Elhadji Wade scored in the paint to cut the St. Gregory's lead to nine with less than one minute to go, but the Cavaliers got a pair of free throws from Brock Vorwald to take a 32-21 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Stars only shot 25 percent from the field in the first half while St. Gregory's shot 47 percent. Adams posted 10 first-half points to help keep OCU in the contest.
Adams buried a 3-pointer to start the second half and Shane Rogers followed with a pair of free throws to cut the St. Gregory's lead to six at the 19:10 mark. St. Gregory's immediately answered to push the lead to 36-26.
OCU trailed 40-30 at the 17:09 mark when St. Gregory's embarked on an 11-2 run to take a 19 point lead with 12:23 left to play.
Charlton Jones drove and scored at the 2:22 mark to cut the St. Gregory's lead to 12, but the Cavaliers hit free throws down the stretch to take the 77-61 victory.
OCU struggled to score and only shot 32 percent from the floor and 16 percent from 3-point distance on the night.
Adams tallied a season-high 21 points to lead the Stars. Jones added 15 points and five assists and Rogers chipped in with 11 points.
The Stars will return to action for the regular-season finale against top-ranked Oklahoma Baptist at 5 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
