OCU vs. Rogers State men's basketball preview

Charlton Jones ranks third in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 12th in NAIA Division I with 5.7 assists per contest.

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University faces fifth-ranked Rogers State in a Sooner Athletic Conference clash.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, while OCU students, faculty and staff are allowed into all regular-season OCU athletics events for free with their ID.
 
ABOUT THE STARS: Lubbock Christian (Texas) edged the Stars 66-63 in Lubbock, Texas. OCU (11-11, 8-10 SAC) played in its 11th game this season decided by five points or less.
Troynell Adams, a 6-foot-4 junior from Chicago, tallied 14 points, four rebounds and two steals. Adams nailed a jump shot that provided OCU a 63-62 lead with 1:23 to go. He has recorded 14.2 points a game the past four games to make his averages 8.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Charlton Jones, a 6-1 junior from Katy, Texas, shared team-high scoring honors with 14 points and three assists. Jones averages 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.41 steals a game. Elhadji Wade, a 6-9 junior from Dhakar, Senegal, posted 13 points and a season-high nine rebounds. Wade contributes 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds a game.

The Stars are unranked in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. OCU currently sits tied for eighth in the league after being pegged to finish seventh in the SAC in the preseason.
Rogers State leads the all-time series with OCU 7-3. Five of those contests were decided by three points or less – including the last meeting, won by Rogers State 81-79. Alex Ewings' 3-pointer with three seconds left brought the Hillcats the win. Orlan Jackman spearheaded OCU with a career-high 29 points and five 3-pointers.
 
ABOUT THE HILLCATS: Rogers State dropped a 78-68 decision to St. Gregory's on Monday in Claremore, Okla. Rogers State (20-5, 13-5 SAC) led by as many as 10 points in the first half before trailing by 11 in the second.
Donald Williams, a 6-5 junior, scored 29 points while tying Deveric Taylor's single-game school record with seven 3-pointers. He notches a team-high 13.7 points a game while shooting 42.8 percent from 3-point range. Larry Cox, a 6-6 senior, had his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He averages 10.7 points and 5.0 rebounds a game.
SAC coaches predicted Rogers State would finish second in the league in the preseason.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Dionne Phelps enters his first season as a head coach with OCU. Phelps took over the Stars after serving as assistant coach for Oklahoma, which featured future No. 1 overall NBA Draft choice Blake Griffin. Phelps has been a part of four conference title teams as well as three NCAA Tournament teams during his 22-year coaching career. Phelps played for Texas Lutheran, eventually joining the Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame.
Justin Barkley has a 42-17 record in his second season as Rogers State head coach. He previously served as assistant coach for two seasons at Rogers State. Barkley played on Northeastern State's 2003 NCAA Division II championship team and a state championship team at Inola (Okla.).
