OCU at Lubbock Christian women's basketball preview

Dietra Caldwell leads OCU with 12.9 points a game while recording 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.30 steals a contest.

THE MATCHUP: No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University takes on seventh-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) as Rob Edmisson seeks his 200th win with the Stars.

ABOUT THE STARS: OCU crushed Wayland Baptist (Texas) 89-48 on Thursday in Plainview, Texas. The Stars (22-1, 16-1 SAC) outscored Wayland Baptist 42-20 in the paint.
Taylor Booze, a 5-foot-6 senior from Duncanville, Texas, spurred OCU with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists. Booze produces 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.70 steals per game.
Philicia Kelly, a 5-9 senior from Nassau, Bahamas, supplied 14 points, four rebounds and three steals. Kelly compiles 8.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.30 steals a game. Lauren Gober, a 6-2 junior from Newcastle, Okla., contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three 3-pointers. Gober averages 12.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.35 steals a game this season.

The Stars hold the No. 1 ranking for the fifth time this season in the latest NAIA Division I poll. Five-time national champion OCU ranks among the leaders in wins in NAIA women's basketball over the past decade. OCU has posted 14 consecutive 20-win seasons. The Stars have been favored to win the SAC championship in the preseason by league coaches.
OCU owns a 35-8 advantage all time vs. Lubbock Christian. Lubbock Christian won the last meeting 88-66 on Jan. 12 at Abe Lemons Arena. Gober led OCU with 17 points and five treys.

ABOUT THE LADY CHAPS: Lubbock Christian routed Mid-America Christian 70-43 on Thursday in Lubbock, Texas. Lubbock Christian (19-3, 16-0 SAC) increased its program-best win streak to 17.
Kelsey Canavan, a 6-1 senior, recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 9-for-12 from the field. Canavan averages 14.9 points and 7.6 rebounds a game. Nicole Hampton, a 5-6 junior, had 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Hampton provides Lubbock Christian 13.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.96 steals.
Lubbock Christian is ranked seventh in the latest NAIA rankings. SAC coaches pegged Lubbock Christian to finish third in the SAC in the preseason.
 
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has posted a stellar 199-31 record in his seventh season at OCU and a 501-150 record overall in his 22nd season as a head coach. Edmisson, a two-time SAC coach of the year, has led the Stars to four SAC regular-season championships and four SAC Tournament titles. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA from OCU, Mariam Sy, as well as six other Stars who have turned professional. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Steve Gomez has guided the Lubbock Christian program to unprecedented heights with eight consecutive trips to the NAIA Tournament, a national runner-up finish in 2006 and a 194-89 record for the most wins of any Lubbock Christian women's basketball coach.
