Lattimore provides OCU win vs. OU

OU, ranked 11th in NCAA Division I, tops Stars 38-3

Michael Brown holds the No. 1 ranking among NAIA 197-pounders.
NORMAN, Okla. – Stanley Lattimore's victory at 285 pounds highlighted Oklahoma City University's 38-3 setback to Oklahoma on Friday at McCasland Field House.
The dual opened the season for OCU, ranked 14th in NAIA wrestling, and Oklahoma, ranked 11th in NCAA Division I by Amateur Wrestling News.
Lattimore, a senior from Athens, Ga., earned a 3-2 victory over Keldrick Hall with an escape at the 1:51 mark of the third period of the heavyweight bout. Lattimore picked up a takedown with 2:31 left in the first, and Hall tied the score with two escapes. Hall's second escape came early in the second period.
Hall entered the night as the 20th-ranked 285-pounder in the NCAA, while Lattimore sits ranked 12th among NAIA heavyweights.
The Stars' Kidd Gomez took a 5-3 first-period edge over Kyle Garcia, but Garcia answered with a takedown with 28 seconds remaining in the first to grab the lead.
Gomez, a senior 125-pounder from Noble, Okla., rallied to take an 8-7 lead with 1:23 showing in the match. Garcia finished off a 10-8 win with an escape and takedown. Garcia's takedown came with nine seconds to go against Gomez, ranked ninth in the NAIA.
At 197, OCU all-American Michael Brown recorded an escape for a 4-3 lead over Brad Johnson with 1:28 left in the match. Johnson added a takedown at 1:14 to go plus riding time to win the contest.
Brown, top-ranked in the NAIA, led 3-0 after a takedown with 22 seconds left in the first.
OCU continues the season hosting the Oklahoma City Open at 9 a.m. Sunday at Abe Lemons Arena. 
Teams expected to send individuals to the meet are OU, Oklahoma State, Central Oklahoma, Arkansas Baptist, Bacone, Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), Labette (Kan.), Missouri Valley, New Mexico Highlands, Newman (Kan.), Pratt (Kan.), University of Texas and Wayland Baptist (Texas). Admission will be $5 for adults, $3 for students.
“This will be a great opening event for the men's program,” OCU coach Archie Randall said of the Oklahoma City Open. “There will be more than 300 college wrestlers in attendance.”
