Stars steamroll Central Baptist 40-8

OCU picks up first dual victory of season

Cody Sivertsen's pin in 2:14 gave the Stars a 20-0 lead on Thursday.

CONWAY, Ark. – Oklahoma City University crushed Central Baptist (Ark.) 40-8 on Thursday at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse.
The Stars notched four falls and a technical fall en route to its first dual victory of the season. OCU, ranked 14th in NAIA wrestling, moved to 1-1.
Kidd Gomez, Mark Meyer, Cody Sivertsen and Trevor Sterling pinned their opponents for the Stars. Meyer's fall provided OCU the early 6-0 advantage, while Gomez's pin put the Stars on top 34-0.
At 157 pounds, Meyer extended his Stars career mark with his 55th career fall. Meyer finished his match against Cullen Frazier in 2:13. Meyer is ranked 16th in the NAIA at 157.
OCU's Zach Skates followed by overwhelming Sam Berry 17-2 at 165. Sivertsen, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., put the Stars ahead 20-0 with a fall over Joel Deere in 2:14 at 184.
Michael Brown and Stanley Lattimore posted major-decision victories at 197 and 285, respectively, for the Stars. Brown, a sophomore from Noble, Okla., holds the No. 1 rating at 197 in the NAIA. Brown knocked off the ninth-ranked individual at his weight, John Lopez, 10-1.
Gomez, a senior from Noble, Okla., put OCU up 34-0 by sticking Peter Acuna in 5:01 at 125. Gomez, ranked ninth among NAIA 125-pounders, had his 19th career pin for the Stars.
Sterling, a sophomore from Altus, Okla., gave the Stars their final win of the night by pinning Treven Romero in 3:48 in the 141-pound bout.
OCU wrestles in the Arlington Open at 9 a.m. Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
