OCU Black holds off OCU Blue 20-19 in Black-Blue Ranking Matches

OCU Black picked up wins in 6 of the 10 matches

Kidd Gomez picked up a technical fall in the Black-Blue Ranking Matches.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Black team held off the Blue team 20-19 to pick up the win in the Black-Blue Ranking Matches Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Returning NAIA all-American Mitchell Eichenauer picked a 4-3 decision for the Blue team over fellow all-American Michael Brown at 197 pounds, but it wasn't enough to get past the Black team.
“I'm pretty pleased, especially with that last match, it was a great last match,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “I'm feeling much more positive than last year, and wrestling is sport where you can't tell until the very end, but right now I'm feeling pretty positive that we'll be very tough. I think that we have a real good shot.”
At 285, senior Stanley Lattimore started the night with a 16-4 major decision over sophomore Derek Locust to give the Blue team a 4-0 lead.
Senior Kidd Gomez followed with a technical fall over sophomore Alvie Killingsworth at 125 to stretch the Blue team's lead to 9-0.
Sophomore Tyler Espitia picked up an 11-2 major decision at 133 and sophomore Trevor Sterling followed with a technical fall at 141 for the Black team to tie the score at 9-9.
Freshman Zach Skates and junior Teagan Franco turned in major decisions at 165 and 174 respectively to stretch the Black team's lead to 20-12.
Sophomore Cody Sivertsen turned in a major decision at 184 to bring the Blue team to within four points.
Eichenauer narrowly defeated Brown at 197, but the Black team held its lead and picked up the 20-19 victory.
The Stars will return to action against Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Friday in Norman, Okla.
