St. Gregory's hands OCU loss in five sets

Stars drop to 13-18, 3-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference

Hannah Mitcham reached 35 assists or more for the 16th time this year.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University suffered an 18-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 15-12 setback to St. Gregory's on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Rachel Gabel, a freshman from Richardson, Texas, spurred the Stars on with 14 kills, 16 digs and two aces. OCU went to 13-18, 3-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Hannah Mitcham, a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, posted 39 assists, five digs and a solo block for OCU. Torrie Flynn, a junior from Edmond, Okla., produced 10 kills, four digs, four blocks and a service ace, and Tori Leisure, a freshman from Haslet, Texas, had 10 kills and five blocks for the Stars.
In the fifth set, Gabel nailed a kill that tied the set 5-5. Ashley Williams and Tiphani Funk pounded kills that gave St. Gregory's a 7-5 edge.
OCU closed the gap to 12-9 after Gabel and Leisure smacked back-to-back kills. After St. Gregory's got to match point at 14-9, Meghan Irwin hammered a kill that helped OCU cut its deficit to 14-12. Kimberly Seiler sealed St. Gregory's win with a kill.
The Stars face 10th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. Friday in Shawnee, Okla.
