OCU falls twice in Baker Invitational

Stars set to play two matches Saturday

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Oklahoma City University took two losses in the Baker Invitational, falling to Benedictine (Kan.) 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 and to Baker (Kan.) 25-22, 26-24, 25-18 on Friday at the Collins Center.
The Stars dropped to 4-6 in volleyball. OCU faces Sterling (Kan.) at 9 a.m., then Ottawa (Kan.) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Baker Invitational.
Against Benedictine, Danielle Robison handed out 28 assists, while Taylor Rowton had eight kills and three blocks for OCU. Raissa Santos notched seven kills and 15 digs, while Victoria Cross picked up 14 digs. Alex Benbrook contributed seven kills and two blocks.
Benedictine's Katie O'Connor pounded down kills to tally the match's final three points.
Against host Baker, Santos, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, posted her seventh double-double of the year with 10 kills, 14 digs and five blocks for the Stars. Cross, a senior from Oklahoma City, reached 20 digs for the sixth time this year with 24 digs.
Robison, a sophomore from Dallas, rang up 20 assists and six digs. Benbrook, a senior from Enid, Okla., added five kills and four blocks, and Meghan Irwin, a freshman from Arlington, Texas, contributed five blocks.
OCU got to set point at 24-23 in the second set, but Savannah Smith responded with a kill for Baker. Christina Delladio and Jasmyn Turner combined on a block to clinch the set for Baker.
In the third set, the Stars reeled off five consecutive points to cut into a 9-3 deficit. Benbrook sparked OCU's run with a kill, and Robison added a kill during that stretch.
