OCU holds off Mid-America Christian

Stars move to 10-12, 3-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference

Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University came up with a 25-22, 26-24, 25-15 victory over Mid-America Christian on Thursday at the Gaulke Center.
Danielle Robison, a sophomore from Dallas, led the way for OCU with 31 assists and 10 digs. The Stars raised their record in volleyball to 10-12, 3-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Robison posted her 10th double-double of the year. Raissa Santos, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, recorded nine kills and 11 digs, and Meghan Irwin, a freshman from Arlington, Texas, nailed nine kills for OCU.
Alex Benbrook, a senior from Enid, Okla., picked up eight kills and two blocks, while Victoria Cross, a senior from Oklahoma City, registered 12 digs for the Stars. Taylor Rowton, a senior from Edmond, Okla., chipped in six kills and two blocks.
OCU erased an 8-4 deficit in the first set. The Stars gained a 19-18 edge with three consecutive points where Rowton and Santos knocked down kills. OCU broke a 19-19 tie with three points in a row as Santos and Robison had kills, then Robison and Torrie Flynn teamed on a block. Flynn's ace clinched the first set.
In the second set, the Stars built a 20-13 advantage using two Rowton kills and a Santos kill. Mid-America rallied to tie the set 24-24, but Santos answered with a kill. Aspen Healy served up an ace to give OCU the set.
Benbrook hammered down a kill to aid OCU in creating an 18-8 advantage en route to the decisive third-set win.
The Stars face Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Monday in Fort Worth, Texas.
