OCU comes back with win over Baker

Santos propels Stars with double-double vs. Baker

Alex Benbrook notched 17 kills and nine blocks Saturday.

OLATHE, Kan. – Oklahoma City University topped Baker (Kan.) 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 on Saturday at the Bell Family Arena in the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational.
MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) defeated OCU 25-23, 25-17, 25-18 earlier Saturday. The Stars went to 7-10 on the year.
The Stars won in a rematch against Baker. Baker won 25-22, 26-24, 25-18 over OCU last weekend in the Baker Invitational.
Raissa Santos spearheaded OCU with 17 kills, 20 digs and two aces for her 12th double-double of the season. Meghan Irwin added 11 kills and 12 digs, while Alex Benbrook contributed seven kills and seven blocks.
Danielle Robison accumulated 37 assists and nine digs for the Stars. Victoria Cross and Anna Gentry racked up 16 digs each.
OCU erased a 7-0 first-set deficit. Santos tied the set 14-14 on a kill, and Irwin provided OCU a 16-14 edge with a kill of her own.
Down 18-17, the Stars responded with six consecutive points. Santos, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, knocked down three kills during that span.
In the second, OCU reeled off five points in a row to erase a 20-19 deficit. Irwin had two kills, while Benbrook's kill brought up set point for OCU. Irwin had a kill to win the set.
In the third set, Baker cut its deficit to 22-21, but OCU answered. Santos gave the Stars set point with an ace, then clinched the win with a kill. 
Against MidAmerica Nazarene, Benbrook led OCU with 10 kills while notching two blocks. Irwin added eight kills, while Robison recorded 29 assists and seven digs.
Santos had five kills and 15 digs, and Cross contributed 12 digs. Taylor Rowton posted six kills and six blocks for the Stars.
In the first set, Torrie Flynn had back-to-back blocks to help OCU to a 14-12 edge. MidAmerica Nazarene reeled off the next six points as Anna Nostrand had two kills and a block during that span.
Linjun Ji brought up set point at 24-20 with a kill for MidAmerica Nazarene. Gentry served up an ace, then Santos knocked down a block to cut OCU's deficit to 24-23. Molly Brewster responded for MidAmerica Nazarene with a kill. 
OCU faces Oklahoma Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Shawnee, Okla.
