WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma City University took fifth place in the Wichita State Shocker Invitational on Tuesday at Wichita Country Club to begin the 2011-12 season.
The Stars, rated second in NAIA men's golf according to Golf World, turned in a 295-288-287–870 to end 36 strokes behind tournament winner Wichita State.
Top-ranked defending NAIA champion Oklahoma Christian finished third in the tournament with a 287-288-282–857, while Texas-Arlington took fourth on the par-71, 6,447-yard course. Wichita State's Calvin Pearson and Hunter Sparks tied for the tournament win.
James Marchesani, a sophomore from Victoria, Rosebud, Australia, topped Oklahoma City with a 71-71-74–216, good for a tie for 13th overall in the event. He finished with 11 birdies.
Michael Palmer, a junior from Johannesburg, South Africa, posted a 75-71-73–219 for OCU. Palmer sank 12 birdies in the tournament.
Temperatures in Wichita reached 90 degrees as winds were between 11-22 mph.
OCU competes next in the Chaps Fall Collegiate on Sept. 19-20 at LakeRidge Country Club in Lubbock, Texas.
