BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University pounded Oklahoma Wesleyan 12-0, 11-0 on Thursday.
Lily LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., fired a no-hitter in the first game and drove in five runs in the second game to lead the Stars. OCU, ranked ninth in NAIA softball, moved to 26-7.
LaVelle notched her fifth no-hitter of her career by striking out 13 in seven innings of the first game. LaVelle allowed two base runners, one on a hit batsman in the first inning and another via error in the fifth. She improved to 16-4 on the year.
Nathalie Timmermans provided all the run support LaVelle needed on a first-inning solo home run. LeeAnn Lopez led off the fourth with a homer and belted a three-run blast in the fifth.
OCU plated seven runs in the seventh as Katie Proffitt got hit by pitch and LaVelle drew a walk, both with the bases loaded. Lopez had an RBI double, while Magean De Le Torre, Tori Joyner, Shari Misuraca and Timmermans each nailed run-scoring singles.
Lopez, a sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, five RBIs and her seventh and eighth homers of the year for the Stars. Timmermans, a junior from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and LaVelle was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kylee Rounsaville, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
In the second game, LaVelle pounded a leadoff solo shot over the left-field fence and a three-run blast in the second to spark OCU. Lopez and Brittany Caruthers swatted RBI singles in the fourth.
In the fifth, the Stars struck for four runs. LaVelle brought in a run on a base hit, and Timmermans drove home two on a double. Caruthers finished OCU's scoring with an RBI single.
LaVelle went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, five RBIs and her 11th and 12th homers of the year for OCU. Timmermans was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Caruthers and Lopez each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Misuraca, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
OCU faces Mid-America Christian in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
