Stars rout Rogers State 7-1, 10-1

OCU hits five home runs Saturday

Kylee Rounsaville had three hits Saturday.

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University dismantled Rogers State 7-1, 10-1 on Saturday at the Hillcat Complex.

The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA softball, pounded out 23 hits in the doubleheader. OCU improved to 38-11, 20-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

In the first game, Kelsey Link and Nathalie Timmermans nailed home runs. Kylee Rounsaville, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for OCU.

Brittany Caruthers, a sophomore from Waxahachie, Texas, was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Magean De La Torre, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run.

Caruthers brought in OCU's first run on a double to deep right field with two out in the first inning. Tori Joyner broke a 1-1 tie on a single with the bases full in the fourth.

The Stars struck for five runs in the seventh. Timmermans hammered a homer to center, then De La Torre socked an RBI double to center. Rounsaville added a run-scoring base hit before Link pounded a two-run blast over the center-field fence.

Lily LaVelle struck out 13 and allowed one run on four hits. LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., improved to 22-7.

In the second game, Chelsey Eddy, LaVelle and Timmermans each homered. LaVelle went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Caruthers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

LaVelle led off the game with a homer to left. Eddy added a solo shot over the right-field fence to touch off a four-run second.

Also in the second, Joyner drove in a run on a base hit to right. Timmermans cranked a two-run homer to right. Shari Misuraca brought in another run in the third on a groundout. De La Torre put OCU on top 7-0 in the fourth with an RBI base hit.

Caruthers chipped in a two-run single in the seventh, then Joyner scored on an error.

A.J. Woodward struck out six and allowed one run on two hits and four walks. Woodward, a junior from Menifee, Calif., moved to 15-4.

The Stars finish the regular season with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday against Rogers State at Ann Lacy Stadium.
