A.J. Woodward improved to 12-4 on the year.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University limited Friends (Kan.) to three hits in a 5-0, 11-3 doubleheader sweep Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.

Lily LaVelle hurled a one-hitter in the first game, while A.J. Woodward held Friends to two hits in the nightcap for the Stars. OCU, ranked 11th in NAIA softball, moved to 32-9.

LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., allowed a hit batsman and two walks. LaVelle (19-5) carried a no-hitter to the last inning as Friends managed only Cheyenne Stewart's base hit to lead off the seventh inning. LaVelle struck out nine in notching her 13th shutout and 21st complete game in 23 starts this year.

Before Stewart's single, LaVelle retired eight batters in a row. She struck out the side in the sixth.

LaVelle gave herself all the runs she needed by leading off the bottom of the first with a home run that stayed fair along the left-field foul line. LaVelle recorded her third multihomer game of the year after nailing a solo shot over the center-field wall to start the bottom of the fifth.

Nathalie Timmermans added a run-scoring double in the third, and Kylee Rounsaville drove in a run on a single in the fourth. Brittany Caruthers brought home OCU's fifth run on a double in the fifth.

LaVelle went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Caruthers, a sophomore from Waxahachie, Texas, went 2-for-3 with a run driven in for the Stars. Magean De La Torre, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Woodward, a junior from Menifee, Calif., improved to 12-4 after striking out two in five innings. After Friends scored three runs in the first, Woodward settled in to retire nine consecutive batters from the first through the fourth.

Caruthers put OCU on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the third. LeeAnn Lopez followed with a three-run blast over the left-center field wall as OCU took the lead for good.

Timmermans nailed a three-run shot over the left-center field wall in the fourth.

Tori Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 4-for-4, scored three times and drove in two runs for the Stars. De La Torre was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lopez and Timmermans each notched three RBIs.
