ARDMORE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University took team runner-up led by James Marchesani's second-place individual finish in the Oklahoma City Spring Classic on Tuesday at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club.
OCU, ranked second in NAIA men's golf, carded 300-290-301–891. Marchesani, a freshman from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, shot 73-66-77–216 for the Stars.
No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Christian posted the winning score with a 303-289-282–874. Bradley Sinnett of Wayland Baptist (Texas) captured the individual title using a 73-71-70–214.
OCU's Elliot Groves tied for 13th with a 75-75-72–222, while Michael Palmer shot 79-72-74–225 to tie for 20th. Sondre Ronold contributed a 73-78-78–229, and Clark Collier compiled an 81-77-79–237 for the Stars.
Cameron Meyers led the OCU Black team by turning in a 73-74-74–221, good for a tie for eighth. Taylor Artman recorded a 74-72-76–222, and Jim Akerstrom had an 80-75-74–229.
Competitors played in temperatures that reached 88 degrees and in winds up to 20 mph on the par-70, 6,586-yard course.
The Stars play in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on April 26-27 at Cherokee Hills Golf Course in Catoosa, Okla.
