DALLAS – Oklahoma City University finished third place in the Dallas Baptist Patriot Invitational on Tuesday at the Golf Club of Dallas.
The Stars, ranked second in NAIA men's golf, fired a 281-285-287–853 to end four strokes ahead of top-ranked Oklahoma Christian, 16 shots in front of ninth-ranked Texas Wesleyan and 30 strokes better than 17th-ranked Wayland Baptist (Texas).
Abilene Christian (Texas) won the tournament with a 270-289-283–842, while Central Oklahoma took second. Abilene Christian is ranked sixth in NCAA Division II, while Central Oklahoma is ranked fifth.
Clark Collier, a junior from Edmond, Okla., led OCU with a 70-71-68–209, good for sixth place individually. He knocked in an eagle and 38 pars in the 54 holes on the par-70, 6,819-yard course. Collier was four strokes behind tournament winner Alex Carpenter of Abilene Christian.
OCU's Elliot Groves, James Marchesani and Michael Palmer tied for 16th place. Groves had a 69-72-74–215 while sinking nine birdies, while Marchesani turned in a 72-71-72–215 with eight birdies and 36 pars. Palmer recorded a 70-72-73–215 with 10 birdies and an eagle.
Cameron Meyers tied for 27th with a 73-71-74–218 for the Stars. Meyers dropped in nine birdies.
OCU hosts the Oklahoma City Spring Classic on April 18-19 at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.
