OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University responded from an 8-5 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan by taking the second game of the softball doubleheader 9-1 on Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU pounded four home runs in the Game 2 victory. The Stars, ranked 10th in the NAIA, moved to 11-3 on the year.
In the first inning, Rounsaville drove in the first run on a base hit. Magean De La Torre added a two-run triple to put OCU ahead 3-1.
Rounsaville nailed a solo blast over the center-field wall in the fifth. After De La Torre doubled, LeeAnn Lopez socked a two-run shot to left to finish the game on the run rule.
Rounsaville, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four driven in. De La Torre, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, was 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Lopez, a sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in.
Lily LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., struck out seven and allowed one run on two hits in five innings. LaVelle (5-2) struck out the side in the second and third.
In the first game, Oklahoma Wesleyan scored the winning runs on Katie Kelley's three-run double in the sixth. In the fifth, OCU cut its deficit to 5-4 on Caruthers' RBI double.
The Stars sliced their deficit to 4-3 in the third on De La Torre's sacrifice fly.
Timmermans, a junior from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Rounsaville went 3-for-4.
Woodward, a sophomore from Menifee, Calif., took her first loss of the year to go to 5-1.
