FORT SMITH, Ark. – Oklahoma City University overcame a first-round, three-stroke deficit to take the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Classic on Tuesday at Hardscrabble Country Club.
OCU's Clark Collier, a junior from Edmond, Okla., won the individual title by two strokes. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA men's golf, posted a 304-288–592 for a one-stroke victory.
Defending national champion OCU edged Newman (Kan.), who shot 305-288–593, for the Stars' third win in four events this season. OCU also bested 10th-ranked Southern Nazarene.
Collier captured his third career tournament win. Collier carded a 74-69–143 on the par-70, 6,412-yard course.
OCU's Elliott Groves placed ninth with a 78-71–149. James Marchesani and Cameron Meyers tied for 10th – Marchesani with a 78-72–150, and Meyers with a 74-76–150. Michael Palmer had a 78-80–158.
Playing unattached, Taylor Artman finished with a 75-75–150, and Sondre Ronold shot 74-80–154.
The Stars compete next in the Texas Intercollegiate on March 13-14 in Fort Worth, Texas.
