OCU clipped by Oklahoma Christian 66-62

Jones posts 22 points to lead the Stars

Charlton Jones scored a team-high 22 points against Oklahoma Christian.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University men's basketball mounted a comeback bid, but fell shot in this season's first edition of the Backyard Brawl losing 66-62 to Oklahoma Christian at the Eagles Nest.
With the loss, the Stars fell to 6-3 on the season and 3-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Stars and Eagles traded baskets early in the first half, and the game saw two ties and three lead changes.
Oklahoma Christian went on a quick 5-0 run at the 11:04 mark, and the Stars found themselves behind the rest of the period.
Junior Elhadji Wade cut the Oklahoma Christian lead to 25-19 with under a minute to go, and sent OCU into halftime down by six.
The Stars struggled to score in the first half, only shooting 24 percent from the floor and 16 percent from behind the 3-point line. The OCU defense held the Eagles to 36 percent from the floor to help keep the game close.
Wade led the way for the Stars with six points and five rebounds and senior Orlan Jackman added seven rebounds in the half.
The Oklahoma Christian lead ballooned to 11 at the 18:05 mark in the second half, but junior Troynell Adams answered with a layup on the next possession to spark a 14-2 run by the Stars. Point guard Charlton Jones capped the run with a jumper to give OCU its first lead of the second half at 36-35 with 13:13 to go.
Oklahoma Christian retook the lead with a 11-0 run to make the score 46-36 with 9:10 left to play.
The Stars kept the game close, due in part to poor free-throw shooting by the Eagles, and cut the lead to 66-62 after Jones buried a 3-pointer with 10 seconds to go.
Oklahoma Christian's Devan White missed two free throws with less than 10 seconds to play, but OCU was unable to take advantage and the game ended with a score of 66-62.
The Stars shot 32 percent from floor and 31 percent from beyond the 3-point line on the game.
Jones posted a team-high 22 points and four assists to lead the Stars. Jackman chipped in with nine points and 12 rebounds and Wade tallied seven points and five boards.
The Stars will return to action against Northwestern Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. Monday at Abe Lemons Arena.
