OCU rolls to 75-64 win at USAO

Morton leads Stars with 18 points, nine rebounds

Charlton Jones posted eight points, eight assists and seven rebounds against USAO.
CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University men's basketball rolled to 75-64 road win over USAO Thursday at USAO Fieldhouse.
The Stars led by as many as 22 points in the game to improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU got point production from its post players led by sophomore Tim Morton with 18 points and nine rebounds. Senior Orlan Jackman chipped in with 15 points and junior Elhadji Wade added 14 off the bench.
The Stars ran out to a 13-4 lead in the first seven minutes of the game sparked by a putback jam by Jackman.
Juniors Charlton Jones and Cory Nicholson led OCU on a 12-4 run to finish the half, punctuated by a putback dunk from Wade with less than 10 seconds to go. The Stars took a 42-24 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Jackman led the way in the first half with 11 points to lead all scorers. The Stars shot 41 percent from the floor in the half and outrebounded USAO 28-14.
USAO fought back in the second half, led by forward Kyle Hunt and cut the OCU lead to 49-45 at the 10:57 mark.
Back-to-back buckets from Morton and Wade sparked a 14-0 run for the Stars who pushed their lead to 65-45 at the 5:45 mark.
USAO's Javier Ramos scored 12 points in the final four minutes, but OCU maintained its double digit lead finishing the contest with a score of 75-64.
Morton posted his third straight double-digit point performance with his team-high 18 points. Jackman added six rebounds to go along with his 15 points.
Wade went 7-12 from the floor to finish with 14, and Jones tallied eight points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
The Stars struggled from 3-point land, shooting a lowly 16 percent, but were able to pull down 21 offensive rebounds to USAO's six.
The Stars will continue SAC play against Southern Nazarene, ranked 18th in NAIA Division I, at 5 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
