Benbrook writes name in OCU record books

Benbrook takes over as OCU block leader in 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 loss to Wayland Baptist

Alex Benbrook increased her career block number to 364 to take over the OCU career lead.
Box Score PLAINVIEW, Texas – Alex Benbrook became Oklahoma City University's career leader in blocks as the Stars fell 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday at the Hutcherson Center.
Benbrook, a senior from Enid, Okla., posted a kill and six blocks to bring her career total to 364 blocks. Benbrook surpassed Whitney Kress' 363 compiled from 2006-08.
Benbrook's record-setting block came in the final set. Benbrook combined with Danielle Robison to cut the Stars' deficit to 23-20. Kate Trejos socked a kill to bring up match point at 24-21, then Trejos teamed with Ashley Duff and Natasha Giacomazzi on the block to end the match.
Torrie Flynn nailed a kill to put OCU ahead 8-3 in the first set. Tatiana Gonzalez had a kill to rally Wayland Baptist to a 15-14 edge.
Raissa Santos led OCU with eight kills and 13 digs, while Victoria Cross picked up 13 digs. Meghan Irwin added seven kills, four digs and two blocks, and Rowton chipped in five kills and three blocks. Danielle Robison recorded 24 assists, seven digs and two blocks.
OCU (12-23, 5-8 Sooner Athletic Conference) concludes the regular season 1 p.m. Saturday against Lubbock Christian (Texas) in Lubbock, Texas.
