OCU falls 33-6 to Oklahoma

Peperas, Turner picked up decisions for the Stars

Nik Turner picked up a 5-4 decision against Oklahoma.
NORMAN, Okla. – Nik Turner and Derek Peperas won individual matches, but Oklahoma City University fell 33-6 to Oklahoma on Thursday at McCasland Field House.
The Stars, ranked eighth in NAIA wrestling, went to 0-1, while Oklahoma, ranked 16th in NCAA Division I according to Intermat, improved to 1-0 in duals.
"We wrestled pretty tough tonight,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “We wrestled tough, and we had a chance to win a couple more of those matches.”
Turner, a senior from Norman, Okla., pulled out the 5-4 decision against Oklahoma's Matt Lester at 157-pounds. Turner is ranked third in the NAIA at 157.
The other OCU win was turned in by Peperas, a senior from Albuquerque, N.M. Peperas, ranked seventh at 165 in the NAIA, recorded an 8-5 decision over Nolan McBryde at 174.
The first match of the night was at 125 and featured junior Kidd Gomez, ranked fifth in the NAIA, and Jarrod Patterson, ranked third in the NCAA. Patterson scored an 8-2 decision over Gomez.
At 133, freshman Gage Harrison was pinned by Jordan Keller in 2:00, as was freshman Cody Sivertsen by Keldrick Hall at 197 in 38 seconds.
Freshman Eric Waggoner lost by technical fall to Kendric Maple 23-8 at 141. Cameron Ream lost a major decision to Nick Lester 20-8 at 149.
Senior Kevin Hardy, ranked second in the NAIA, lost 7-1 to Bubby Graham at 165, senior Andrew Pontikes, ranked seventh in the NAIA, dropped a 6-5 decision to Erich Schmidtke at 184. Michael Brown lost 3-2 to Elijah Madison at 285.
The Stars will return to action in the Oklahoma City Open at 9 a.m. Sunday at Abe Lemons Arena.
