OCU hosts Stars Thanksgiving Open Preview

Eighth-ranked Stars take on 11th-ranked Missouri Baptist at noon Wednesday

Kidd Gomez became a three-time qualifier for the NAIA Championships after winning two open tournaments this season.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University will offer wrestling fans a chance to not only see the finest youth wrestlers from the region, but also see the nationally-ranked Stars on Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
OCU hosts the Stars Thanksgiving Open Preview featuring high-school and middle-school wrestlers from Oklahoma and Texas starting 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The tournament includes Enid, Muskogee, Perry, Tulsa Union and Westmoore. Perry has won eight consecutive state championships, taking the Class 3A title last season.
The Stars take on Missouri Baptist at noon Wednesday in a matchup of top 15-ranked teams in NAIA wrestling. Eighth-ranked OCU features seven ranked individuals, including all-American Kevin Hardy. Hardy, a senior from Solon, Ohio, is ranked second at 165 pounds. No. 11-ranked Missouri Baptist will be led by Joe Kent, ranked third at 285.
The dual will run concurrent to the high school action.
“Having the dual before a crowd of 700-plus youth athletes gives us an opportunity to showcase our school and wrestling program,” OCU coach Archie Randall said.
