Stars fall 1-0 to USAO in SAC tournament championship match

OCU stumbles against USAO, still advances to NAIA opening round

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University women's soccer fell 1-0 to USAO in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship match Friday at Stars Field.
The loss moves the Stars to 17-2-1 on the season. OCU and USAO clinched spots in the NAIA Championship Opening Round.
Both teams played tough defense in the first half leading to a halftime score of 0-0.
USAO's Calli Cooper had a shot at an open net in the 61st minute, but freshman Allie Glazner blocked it before it crossed the goal line to keep the score 0-0.
In the 70th minute USAO's Jordyn Yates had her open-net attempt blocked by junior Hollis St. John to keep the score tied at 0-0.
In the 72nd minute USAO broke through for the only goal of the match when Devon Legaard's pass found Erin Coggan who beat sophomore goalkeeper Alissa Reed to make the final score 1-0.
The Stars were outshot 8-7 on the match and only registered one shot on goal by sophomore Blerta Rashica.
The loss marks the first time the Stars have been shutout this season.
Sophomore goalkeepers Ashley Bechtold and Reed split time between the posts. Each recorded one save in 45 minutes of action.
OCU, SAC regular season champions, and USAO, SAC tournament champions, will play NAIA opening round matches on Nov. 19th. Sites and opponents are still to be determined.
