LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma City knocked off Lubbock Christian (Texas) 76-72 at the Rip Griffin Center on Thursday.
Orlan Jackman, a junior from London, netted a game-high 19 points for OCU. The Stars improved to 13-8, 6-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Nate Flowers, a senior from Waldorf, Md., chipped in with 10 points, and 11 rebounds, while freshman Kaleb Smith and junior Brandon Moton also adding in 10 points for the Stars.
OCU held the lead in the first half, going to the locker room with a 38-31 lead over LCU.
Smith's 3-pointer capped a 14-0 run to give OCU its largest lead of the game at 33-16 with 7:04 left in the first. Smith ignited the Stars' spree before Jackman added back-to-back transition buckets. Lubbock Christian went scoreless for 4:14.
Moton gave OCU their biggest lead in the second half with a 3-pointer to make the score 52-38 with 14:33 left.
Kenny Hewitt put LCU within one point of OCU after sinking two free throws. Hewitt's free throws finished a 9-2 Lubbock Christian run and cut OCU's lead to 68-67 at 3:22 showing.
Back to back 3-pointers from junior Shane Rogers and Moton kept the Stars alive, leading them to their victory over LCU. Douglas Williams' trey cut OCU's edge to 75-72 with two seconds left, but Cesar Cuevas sealed the win with a free throw with one second remaining.
The Stars take on Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
