OCU fights off St. Gregory's in three sets

Stars meet 16th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena

Danielle Robison notched 25 assists, six digs and two aces Tuesday.
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University scraped out a 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 Sooner Athletic Conference road victory over St. Gregory's on Tuesday at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse.
The Stars notched 10 team blocks en route to improving to 10-5, 3-1 in SAC volleyball. OCU reached double figures in blocks for the third time this year.
Xiaoting Ma, a senior from Dalian, China, posted nine kills, six digs and four blocks for OCU, while Torrie Flynn, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., recorded five kills and a team-high eight blocks.
Alex Benbrook tallied six kills and two blocks, and Vicky Murphy notched six kills. Danielle Robison had 25 assists, six digs and two aces as OCU rang up seven service aces.
The Stars erased a 15-12 first-set deficit by scoring the next four points. OCU picked up the tying point on Flynn's solo block and the go-ahead point on a block by Flynn and Raissa Santos.
St. Gregory's cut OCU's edge to 19-18, then OCU reeled off five consecutive points. In that span, Benbrook had a kill and combined with Ma on a block. Ma also chipped in a kill to bring up set point.
In the second frame, OCU had a 5-0 run to take away a 10-8 St. Gregory's lead. The Stars also had the set's final four points. Flynn knocked down a kill for set point, then Ma's kill put away the set.
OCU overcame a 7-2 deficit in the third set. The Stars pulled away with three points in a row to make it 19-16. Ma dropped in an ace to clinch the win.
The Stars meet Oklahoma Baptist, ranked 16th in the NAIA, at 7 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
