OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University women's soccer team notched its second shutout of the week 2-0 over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday at Stars Field.
The Stars (4-2) gave goalkeeper Brittany Tibbs, a senior from Kansas City, Mo., her third shutout of the season and her 29th of her OCU career.
OCU coach Brian Harvey is pleased with the continued success of a stalwart defense.
“It was a good win in terms of we won earlier in the week 4-0 against Southwestern Oklahoma State, and then again another shutout so I'm pleased with the shutouts at the moment,” Harvey said.
Offensively, the game began with a goal just two minutes into regulation, when a corner kick from Malin Andersson, a senior from Huskvarna, Sweden, placed a ball in perfect position for Josefine Holmgren to score on a header.
In the second half, the Stars started off on the offensive attack as well. Blerta Rashica, freshman from Orebro, Sweden, scored her fourth goal of the year with the assist going to Stephanie Pena, a senior from Tulsa, Okla. Rashica had five shots in the contest for OCU.
Though the Stars outshot their opponent 15-5 in the match, the defensive effort was the highlight for Harvey.
“I thought both our central defenders played very well, Brenna Skillern and Josefine Holmgren, I thought both had very good games,” Harvey said. “I thought Abby (Lloyd) had a good game as well, so I'm very pleased at what's happened at the back.”
OCU will next be in action Sunday against East Central in Ada, Okla., at 2 p.m.
