OCU takes three-set win from Mid-America

Ma records eighth double-double of year

OCU notched six blocks Tuesday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University posted a Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball victory 25-22, 25-15, 25-18 over Mid-America Christian on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Xiaoting Ma, a senior from Dalian, China, compiled her eighth double-double of the year with 12 kills and 10 digs to go with two blocks for OCU. The Stars improved to 9-4, 2-0 in the SAC.
Alex Benbrook, a junior from Enid, Okla., added 10 kills, and Victoria Cross, a junior from Oklahoma City, picked up 20 digs for the Stars. Samantha Ball dished out 15 assists, and Danielle Robison chipped in 18 assists and eight digs.
OCU built a first-set 11-6 lead with four points in a row. Ma had two kills and a block during that stretch. Mid-America responded to take 20-18 and 22-20 edges.
The Stars fought back with the final five points of the set. Benbrook nailed a kill, then Ma pounded down three kills in a row to clinch the set.
In the second set, OCU scored the first four points and the last five points. Taylor Rowton brought up set point with a kill, then Torrie Flynn finished the set with a kill.
OCU tallied six of the final eight points of the third set. Flynn and Rowton teamed on a block to put OCU ahead 23-17. Flynn knocked down a kill to make it match point at 24-18, then Raissa Santos laid down the match-clinching kill.
The Stars take on John Brown (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
