WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma City University took third place in the Wichita State Shocker Classic, finishing ahead of five NCAA Division I teams Tuesday at Wichita Country Club.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA men's golf, carded 288-297-305–890 to end 13 strokes behind tournament champion Wichita State and a shot behind runner-up Texas-Arlington.
Clark Collier, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., took seventh place with a 73-76-72–221 for the Stars. Dustin Garza of Wichita State won the tournament with a 74-69-68–211.
Conditions included a 30 mph south wind with 80-degree temperatures on the par-71, 6,814-yard course.
OCU's Michael Palmer tied for 10th place with a 71-74-78–223, while Taylor Artman shot 76-72-77–225. Ben Bench contributed a 72-76-78–226, and Julian Valenciana had a 72-75-81–228.
The Stars finish the regular season with their only home event of the season, the U.C. Ferguson Classic on April 12-13 at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club, 3501 Quail Creek Road in Oklahoma City.
