WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma City University stood three strokes off the team pace set by Wichita State in the Wichita State Shocker Classic on Monday at the Wichita Country Club.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA men's golf, fired a 289-297–585 through 36 holes on the par-71, 6,814-yard course. Michael Palmer, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, paced OCU with a 71-74–145 to be in sixth place.
Palmer found himself three shots behind Tyler Gann of Wichita State. Temperatures reached 81 degrees, and winds were up to 26 mph.
Julian Valenciana, a senior from Monterrey, Mexico, was in eighth place with a 72-75–147. Taylor Artman and Ben Bench tied for ninth place – Artman shot 76-72–148, and Bench had a 72-76–148.
Clark Collier registered a 73-76–149.
Second-ranked Oklahoma Christian was in fifth with a 295-305–600, while No. 13 Wayland Baptist (Texas) had a 315-301–616. Seventh-ranked Texas Wesleyan recorded a 312-305–617.
The final round of the Wichita State Shocker Classic begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday.
