WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Oklahoma City University's Clark Collier defeated teammate Michael Palmer in a playoff to win the Midwestern State Invitational individual title on Tuesday at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
Collier, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., shot a 70-68-72—210 after 54 holes to tie for first place with Palmer, who fired a 72-68-70—210. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA men's golf, took the team title by a commanding 23 shots over Dallas Baptist. This is the second consecutive tournament title for OCU.
Palmer, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, led the field with 13 birdies in the tournament, while Collier tallied 11 birdies and an eagle.
Julian Valenciana, a senior from Monterrey, Mexico, carded a 72-73-72—217 and finished in a tie for fourth place. Valenciana poured in nine birdies.
Ben Bench, a senior from Oklahoma City, recorded a 74-73-77—224, while Sondre Ronold, a freshman from Stavanger, Sweden, shot 73-75-76—224 on the par-71, 6,917-yard golf course.
Central Missouri fired a 292-294-308—894, Midwestern State (Texas) shot 293-302-301—896 and East Central finished with a 293-303-310—906 to wrap up the top five.
The Stars will compete in the Dallas Baptist Classic March 29-30 at the Golf Club of Dallas.
