THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University puts its five-game winning streak on the line at John Brown (Ark.).
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU routed Mid-America Christian 80-58 on Monday inside Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (10-5, 8-4 Sooner Athletic Conference) moved into third place in the SAC with the victory. OCU shot 55 percent from the field while limiting Mid-America to just 33.3 percent shooting for the game.
Jeremy McCarty, a junior from Houston, scored 21 points to lead the Stars' offense. McCarty averages 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds. Kavon Lytch, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Lytch averages 15.6 points and 8.1 rebounds.
Corey Bingham, a junior from Lynn, Mass., added 12 points, two assists and two steals. Bingham is averaging 13.8 points,5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.33 steals per game. Chris Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., leads the Stars with 17.8 points per outing.
OCU ranks second in NAIA Division I with 5.47 blocked shots per game. Bryant Williams leads the SAC and ranks seventh nationally with 2.53 blocks per contest.
OCU is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division I poll. In the preseason, the Stars were picked to finish sixth in the SAC. OCU has captured the SAC regular-season crown 13 times.
OCU is 23-9 all-time against John Brown. The Stars last loss came Jan. 9 against John Brown 69-64 at Abe Lemons Arena. Lytch led OCU with 26 points and nine rebounds.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: John Brown edged Lubbock Christian (Texas) 73-68 on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas to improve to 15-7, 7-7 in the SAC. John Brown shot 50 percent from the field and led by as many as 19 points midway through the second half. JBU also owned a 40-28 rebounding advantage.
Sam Bartlett led John Brown with 21 points in the game. Bartlett, a 6-6 junior, averages 10.9 points and 5.3 rebounds. Davaughn Jackson, a 6-5 senior, added 12 points. Jackson averages a team-high 15.5 points and 8.3 rebounds.
John Brown is recieving votes in the latest NAIA Division I poll. John Brown was tabbed fifth in the SAC preseason poll.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Kevin Morrissey enters his first full season as OCU head coach. Morrissey spent the previous four seasons as St. Gregory's coach. He also has been an assistant at Missouri State and Texas-Pan American. Morrissey played his college ball at Oklahoma Baptist and Oral Roberts and high school at Bishop McGuinness in Oklahoma City.
Clark Sheehy has posted a 47-39 record in his third season since returning to John Brown, his alma mater. Sheehy spent two years at Fresno Pacific (Calif.) and has a 75-68 head-coaching record overall.
