THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University opens Sooner Athletic Conference play against Mid-America Christian in pursuit of remaining unbeaten on the season.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 students and free to OCU students, faculty and staff with their ID.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU (6-0) posted an 88-58 win over Dallas Christian on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars shot 50.8 percent from the field in the game while allowing their opponent to make just 35.6 percent of their shots.
Brandon Moton, a 6-foot-3 junior from Beaumont, Texas, led all scorers with 25 points in 28 minutes of play. Moton was 4-of-7 from 3-point range while sinking all five of his free throw attempts in the contest.
Bryant Williams, a 6-9 senior from Austin, Texas, added 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the Stars. Williams was a hot-handed 6-of-7 from the field. Johnny Stephene, a 6-1 junior from Boynton Beach, Fla., rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Stars, chipping in 10 points for OCU.
The Stars have four scorers averaging at least 13 points or better on the season. Dee Proby joins Moton and Stephene in leading the balanced offensive attack for OCU with 13.2 points a game. Nate Flowers adds 13.0 points a game.
The Stars received votes in the preseason national rankings. OCU has been picked to finish fifth in the SAC according to league coaches. Six-time national champion OCU has captured the SAC regular-season crown 13 times.
OCU owns a 10-1 all-time record against Mid-America Christian. The Stars avenged their only loss to Mid-America with an 80-58 victory Feb. 1, 2010 at Abe Lemons Arena.
ABOUT THE EVANGELS: Mid-America Christian (2-2) lost a pair of exhibition games to Central Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma over the weekend in Weatherford, Okla. The Evangels fell 80-77 at Oklahoma Wesleyan in their last regular-season game on Nov. 16.
The Evangels were led by Brandon Williams' 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor, including three 3-pointers against Oklahoma Wesleyan. Williams, a 5-10 junior, is the Evangels' leading scorer thus far, averaging 20.3 points per contest through four games. He's also leading the Evangels in steals, averaging 2.25 per game.
Nathan Pratt, a 6-4 senior, added 16 points, four rebounds and three assists in the contest with Oklahoma Wesleyan. Pratt joins Williams as the only other player for Mid-America Christian averaging double-digit scoring this season. Pratt is averaging 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
John Shodipo, a 6-6 senior, chipped in 10 points and five rebounds in 18 minutes in the Evangels' last regular season contest. As a team, the Evangels hit 45.6 percent of their shots from the field on the night in the three-point loss.
Mid-America Christian was picked to finish ninth in the Sooner Athletic Conference in the preseason.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Kevin Morrissey has posted a 38-26 record in his third season at OCU. Morrissey spent the previous four seasons as St. Gregory's coach. He also has been an assistant at Missouri State and Texas-Pan American. Morrissey played his college ball at Oklahoma Baptist and Oral Roberts and high school at Bishop McGuinness in Oklahoma City.
Willie Holley is in his 37th season coaching at Mid-America Christian. Holley has a 722-470 career record. An NCCAA hall of famer, Holley guided Mid-America to NCCAA Division II titles in 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2007.
