OCU trails by one stroke in Harold Funston Invitational

Host Sam Houston State leads 15-team field

Sondre Ronold stood four shots off the pace through 36 holes Monday.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Oklahoma City University opened up the Sam Houston State Harold Funston Invitational with a two-round score of 290-278–568 on Monday at Raven Nest Golf Club.

The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA men's golf, trailed Sam Houston State by one stroke in a field of 15 teams.

OCU fell behind in the morning round by 12 strokes, but stormed back in the afternoon round on the par-71, 6,974-yard course to climb into second place.

Sondre Ronold, a sophomore from Stavanger, Norway, and James Marchesani, a freshman from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, led the Stars by carding 74-67–141 and 73-68–141, respectively. Ronold and Marchesani both posted sub-par second rounds and trailed the leader by four strokes to be tied for seventh place.

Also for the Stars, Cameron Meyers shot on par both rounds to card a 71-71–142 and end the day tied for 12th, while Clark Collier shot 72-73–145. Rounding out the OCU team scoring was Elliot Groves with a 75-72–147.

Temperatures reached a high of 86 degrees, with a slight wind of 7 mph.

The final round of action continues at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Raven Nest Golf Club with teams playing one round.
