OCU falls at the buzzer against Rogers State

Al Graham missed a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer against Rogers State on Thursday night.

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Al Graham missed a 3-pointer from the left side as time expired, giving Rogers State an 80-77 victory over Oklahoma City University in men's basketball on Thursday night at the Claremore Expo Center.

OCU dropped to 5-4, 3-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Rogers State improved to 9-5, 2-4 in the SAC.

OCU had a layup called back on an offensive foul call with 6.9 seconds remaining that would have given OCU a 79-78 lead. Chris Brown drove to the lane, and dished the ball off to Jeremy McCarty for the easy bucket, but Brown was called for the player-control foul.
Then
Reggie Burnett sank two free throws for RSU, and Graham missed hard off the rim as time expired.

“We made some really poor decisions toward the end of the game,” OCU coach Kevin Morrissey said. “We had a two-point lead with the ball, didn't take a great shot and they hit a 3 on the other end. All of a sudden we're down one. Those things happen, but mentally we just had too many mistakes at the end of the game.”

Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., led four Stars in double figures with 23 points, including 14 points in the second half.

McCarty put together his best game in an OCU uniform with 17 points and five rebounds. Corey Bingham added 15 points, and Kavon Lytch had 10.

Lance Sullivan led Rogers State with 28 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range.

The Stars went on a 16-7 run late in the second half to take a 75-73 run with 3:05 to play in the game. Brown spearheaded the run with eight points during that span.

Rogers State answered with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to push RSU up by three points. Lytch hit 2 of 4 free throws down the stretch to cut the lead to one point with 23 seconds left.
OCU led 35-34 at halftime.

The Stars will be back at home on Saturday at 5 p.m. against John Brown (Ark.) at Abe Lemons Arena.
