THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University meets Sooner Athletic Conference foe Wayland Baptist (Texas).
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 students and free to OCU students, faculty and staff with their ID.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU knocked off Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (4-3, 2-2 SAC) held Lubbock Christian to 33.9 percent shooting from the field.
Chris Brown, a 6-foot senior from Spencer, Okla., spearheaded OCU by scoring 25 points and dishing out five assists. Brown tops OCU in scoring (20.7 points a game) and steals (1.71) and ranks second in the conference in scoring average.
Jerome Phillips, a 6-5 senior from Chickasha, Okla., recorded 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Phillips averages 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds. Kavon Lytch, a 6-7 junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., had nine points and 10 rebounds in his OCU debut Saturday.
In the preseason, the Stars have been picked to finish sixth in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OCU has captured the SAC regular-season crown 13 times. OCU received votes in the last NAIA Division I rankings.
OCU leads the all-time series against Wayland Baptist 32-9. Wayland Baptist completed its first season sweep of OCU with an 82-65 win over the Stars on Feb. 7 in Plainview, Texas.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS: Wayland Baptist fell 87-72 to Mid-America Christian on Saturday in Oklahoma City. Wayland Baptist fell to 4-6, 0-5 in the SAC.
Rishi Kakad, a 6-3 senior, had 22 points to lead Wayland. Kakad tops Wayland Baptist with 19.6 points per game. Jason Griffin, a 6-2 senior, chipped in 10 points Saturday and averages 13.0 points. Taylor Janowicz, a 7-foot junior, totaled 13 points against Mid-America.
Wayland Baptist was expected to finish ninth in the SAC in the preseason by conference coaches.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Kevin Morrissey enters his first full season as OCU head coach. Morrissey spent the previous four seasons as St. Gregory's coach. He also has been an assistant at Missouri State and Texas-Pan American. Morrissey played his college ball at Oklahoma Baptist and Oral Roberts and high school at Bishop McGuinness in Oklahoma City.
Robert Davenport has led Wayland Baptist to a 51-52 record in his fourth season in Plainview, Texas. Davenport has previously been head coach at Texas-Pan American, LeTourneau (Texas) and Missouri Baptist. OCU assistant Quinn Wooldridge coached under Davenport two years ago.
