ATHERTON, Calif. – Oklahoma City University suffered a pair of losses in wrestling duals, falling 28-12 to fifth-ranked Southern Oregon and 24-16 to Menlo (Calif.) on Saturday at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.
The Stars, ranked eighth in the NAIA, went to 2-4 on the season.
OCU prevailed in a pair of bouts featuring ranked individuals against Southern Oregon.
At 165 pounds, Mark Meyer of the Stars knocked off Tommie Hooper 5-0. Meyer, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., is ranked seventh at 165, while Hooper is rated third at 157.
At 285, Corey Johnson of OCU beat John Bates 5-2. Johnson, a senior from Oologah, Okla., is ranked fifth, while Bates entered at No. 4 at 285 in the NAIA.
Kidd Gomez picked up the Stars' other win. Gomez, a freshman from Noble, Okla., edged Jared Dalgleish 10-9 at 125.
Against Menlo, Johnson and Meyer each moved to 2-0 on the night.
Johnson pinned Hanna Malak in 4:00 at 285. Meyer defeated Adrian Gonzales 5-0 at 165.
Jake Mabry, a junior from Gig Harbor, Wash., upended Sean Weeks 11-1 at 184.
At 133, Bryce Dicus, a redshirt freshman from Catoosa, Okla., prevailed 12-9 over Drake Medeiros in his dual debut for OCU.
The Stars compete next in the Menlo Open on Sunday in Atherton, Calif.
